Since introducing the App and iBeacons we have used word-of-mouth to recommend it to our visitors. We wanted to be able to get feedback from the first users and so decided against a large-scale launch. We have been able to watch the reactions of those who have downloaded it and started using it immediately. We’re lucky in having excellent Wi-Fi provision, so people are able to download the app quickly and easily.
Feedback from library users about the iBeacons has been, without exception, positive.
Two mums with 8 year old boys came in to the library, library staff chatted with them about the app and the iBeacons. They downloaded the app and went around the library searching for the iBeacons. Searching for the iBeacons encouraged them to visit parts of the library they wouldn’t otherwise venture into, and the videos and links from the beacons told them about services they weren’t aware of. End result? Increased awareness of the space and our services; increased interest in visiting; two happy mothers; two impressed children and “FAB!” on our comments form.
The training from Aspire2B helped staff see the almost limitless possibilities for integration with promotions, events and activities. The next phase for us is to embed the knowledge within staff and to develop the iBeacon content before we move on to the third phase – full scale launch.
