Another fantastic Friday delivering training for the Ospreys’ Schools Programme! Again, Dave and I covered a wealth of material to support health and wellbeing in the primary school, such as the Digital Badges programme, Book Creator – with its new comic creation add-on – and Pages, BUT one app stood out from the rest and we quickly had a room full of excited and enthused teachers on our hands. The app that caused this chaos was…Socrative.
Socrative is an extremely handy classroom tool, which allows teachers to visualise and measure pupils’ understanding in real time, whilst also providing incredible engagement for the children. It is revolutionising assessment as we know it!
Using Socrative’s simple and dynamic interface, teachers can create quizzes on any aspect of the school curriculum while benefiting from zero marking time! WIN! I would recommend this app to anyone that teaches any age group absolutely anything. With a range of quiz types, question types and pace options, the choices and combinations are endless and extremely flexible. The teacher and pupils can instantly reflect on the learning, identifying strengths and areas of development. Additionally, at the end of each quiz, teachers can elect to download an excel file, containing all the details of the quiz taken, which is sent to the teacher’s email address, in order for them to assess the quiz and, of course, give them the opportunity to continually assess pupil’s progress throughout the year.
Another key benefit to Socrative, is the Socrative “Garden” where educators from around the world have made their quizzes available for colleagues to import straight to their accounts and then use in class. The time saving benefits to this are obvious. If you wanted to create a Socrative quiz on, say, algebra, then there are literally dozens already waiting to be used in the Socrative Garden. All you need to do is import it, check it for accuracy and relevance to your class, and away you go, saving you plenty of precious planning time.
Throughout Friday’s training, the teachers could see the potential of using Socrative in their classrooms, especially for developing pupil engagement. The teachers could not wait to get back to school to get started and I recommend that you go and do the same!
Go and check out the Socrative Teacher and Student apps today! You will thank me later!
